Barbara Schauwecker: Somethingoldsomethingnew June 20 - August 24

Somethingoldsomethingnew is a timeline portrait and reminiscence of Barbara’s last 8 years in New York; a mixing of materials, ideas, past, present, objects, people, experiences. Included in this timeline are sculptural fabric pieces, embroidery, masks, spirit heads, painting, and works on paper all guaranteed to be as layered, mysterious and magical as that artist herself. The works are made from materials found, gifted, bought and stolen... button eyes staring longingly for attention, stitches fraying with years gone by. Barbara’s 8th year anniversary in Brooklyn, as well as her recent engagement to take a partner for life or death has brought about many memories and feelings of the past. Beebop is exhibiting this journey which attempts to honor all the ideas that surfaced in Barbara’s time here.

In Barbara’s words, “Performances come and go, materials come and go, ideas come and go, people come and go. Make way, make time, make ideas, make memories. I have solidified with a core that feels it can fly away; including all things before, while embracing the ideas to come with calmness of knowing that that the creative spirit will rise again, is ever-present. “

Barbara Schauwecker has lived in Brooklyn for 8 years, she currently lives and works in Bedford Stuyvesant. Barbara embraces expression thru visual art, performance, and sound. Barbara performs regularly in the experimental group, Animental and spends part of the year creating one of a kind pieces for her clothing line BOBBI. Barbara was born in Korea, relocated to Okinawa until the age of ten, then moved to Florida. Barbara has many fond memories of exploring the island of Okinawa as well as memories of adapting to a new life in the United States and becoming a Floridian. Barbara received an MA from Florida's State University. Barbara believes that the nature and ocean that has surrounded her throughout her life has been a main source of her inspiration. She has performed and shown her work throughout the United States and Europe as well as in Canada, Puerto Rico, Japan, and Argentina. She currently has a piece traveling to  Hungary and Slovakia. Deya Ramsden: Sugar Free, March 1- April 31, 2008

Sugar Free provides us with a visual introduction of Deya Ramsden, who has recently moved to Brooklyn from Oregon. Her eclectic and playful multi media works are united by a sense of experimentation. Using fabric, paper, plastic, clay and metal, Deya crochets, weaves and sews for us a fantasical world of both underwater and landwalking creatures alongside of sculptures of environments in which these creatures might frolick. Each creature is expressed in its own set of mediums, securing and celebrating their complete uniquness.

Dome City is a paper sculpture made while “under the influence of the city” of New York, tiny drawings stacked upon eachother with a blue inner glow at the center. Its protrusion from the wall pulls the viewer in to join the city and inspect the individuality of the drawings. Deya has woven the giant Jellyfish in Plastic, from plastic bags which floats above, daring the viewer to play in the tentacles.

Born and raised in Virginia, Deya is a a self taught artist who has shown work at Nature in Charlottesville, Nocturnal and the Handmade Bazaar in Portland, and HaNnA Gallery in Tokyo.

We will be celebrating this event with musical performances by Sheeesh (Nick Kuszyk's solo project), Weirding Module (Michael from Awesome Color's solo project) and more...

Colin Langenus: Seed the Archetypes, January 26 - February 26

Colin’s recent move from a Bed-Stuy loft that was his home for 4 years has inspired this exhibition, which exists for him as a purge of the past. Getting it over with, getting rid of it, and celebrating it. Utilizing inserts, leftover photocopies from records he's made, band t-shirts, patches and 10 year old art supplies, Colin is cleansing his spirit while enriching ours with this visual remix of his personal musical history.

Included in the exhibition will be two series’ of paintings and paper quilts. Get ready for the unveiling of a fabric quilt 3 winters in the making, sewn from hippy punk patches. Gaze upward to catch a glimpse of his ceiling installation of a black and white paper quilt, his Warholic vision of a virtually unknown European street musician.

Colin is half of the legendary and amazing band USA is a Monster . Their new albumn Space Programs comes out on Load Records this Spring. Colin currently has a piece up in the Chelsea Hotel. He has shown his work previously in HaNnA gallery in Tokyo, and has released 100 works through his DIY zines, records and posters. We will also be celebrating this event with music by DJ Jazzy Jess, DJ Dog Dick and more..birthday cake for Deya, Frankie, Evan, Molly, and musical cakes.......?

Noah Brehmer: This is this and that is that, November 17- December 30

Please join us to celebrate work by 17 year old Milwaukee native Noah Brehmer, opening Saturday November 17 from 7-10 pm. Like the number 17, Brehmer’s work is divisible only by itself, having no formal art education and as a very recent transplant to the big apple, he has not been overexposed.

Exploring message and meaning while hopeful for human interaction, Brehmer reaches out in the form of painting, digital print, video and sculpture. An object is given metaphorical value when placed in the context of community. In This is This and That is That witness an amorphous collection of symbols. Each object is given an analogous pairing. In staged reality, frustrated with its meaning, Brehmer has tagged his own tag, acting the part of the frustrated artist.

Brehmer gives his audience something to work with, while asking for help to complete the piece in “please feel free to express yourself” a digitally programmable belt buckle, and in the painting “call me”. A more serious and humble side is shown in eerie yet tender paintings of he and his sister and of his favorite tee shirt. A crudely made sculpture of the most crude bodily function interrupts our ability to easily view the rest of the works, while obeying 2 of the 3 commands from a triad of wizards. We will also be celebrating this event with music by gabber/dawg DJs from baltimore, birthday cake for Tom, and glowing keys to.......?
