Live From the Bermuda Triangle
Outline of the project:
In December of 2008, as part of an art piece entitled Live From the Bermuda Triangle, I plan to sail through the Bermuda Triangle along with four other sailors. The month long* voyage will be broadcasted via live internet video feed, and also exhibited in the form of video, painting and sculpture at art galleries simultaneously (potentially) in New York, Miami, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda.
Live From the Bermuda Triangle is a conceptual project about the environmental crisis, survival, comfort, heroism and personal achievement. It is meant to inspire and to entertain. The live video feed coverage is crucial for the involvement of a public audience, who will follow our progress as they would follow a reality television show. The current scope of television programming is largely reality based, and I would like to harness the success of this format to generate an audience for my piece far larger than the scope of the art world.
As a partner in this project, your company would be invited to host this live video feed via their website. Live From the Bermuda Triangle would entertain the online audience and provide them with an extraordinary reason to visit the web site on a regular, even daily basis for those 4 weeks and beyond. The goal of the project is to create a highly contagious, viral media sensation, both entertaining and substantive, to which the sponsors would be directly linked. Your company logo can be printed on one of our sails as advertisement and as a thank you for your partnership and support.
Raising Awareness:
Every year the hurricane seasons get longer, with successively worse storms creating more damage. With each passing year, the window of opportunity for this trip grows shorter. The trip is a statement about the fragility of our earth’s environment , the balance of our ecosystem, and even more so, the delicacy of our human condition as connected with the earth’s condition. It is important to adventure into and fearlessly enjoy these natural and beautiful places while possible, to see the glaciers, hike the Appalachian trail, to sail the seas and explore the planet. I have met with my friend and world-famous Norwegian explorer, Erling Kagge***, who has traveled many times in the Triangle region, to determine the plausibility and safety of my voyage. Through his encouragement and my extensive research I have determined that the trip is indeed completely safe.
While on the journey, we will drop a giant iron sculpture of a potato chip into the middle of the Bermuda Triangle. The potato chip, particularly the Pringles brand, is in essence the exaggerated shape of our universe. Iron, as a ferromagnetic element, will attract the mysterious magnetism that the Triangle is said to possess. Thus, the sculpture is both a symbolic and comic gesture, an offering representative of solidarity and safety on our trip through this foreboding and highly mythologized region.
While en route the internet audience will be able to watch our every move onboard, giving them a chance to feel like part of the mission. In addition to being able to view the daily life of sailors, the audience will be entertained with jokes and comedic dance and poetry skits. We would be open to the possibility of performing the occasional commercial as written by you. I have gathered a crew that is not only strong as a group of sailors, but good-natured with an excellent sense of humor.
As an artist I am represented by CANADA. Additionally, I have exhibited work at Little Cakes Little Gallery, Musée d'Art moderne de la Ville de Paris in Paris, MOMA NY, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, Moore Space in Miami and at Standard in Oslo among others. I received the Mary Nohl Emerging Artist Award in 2004. I have an international following of fans, to which my web site is dedicated (www.frankiefeverforever.com). Live from the Bermuda Triangle will be my most ambitious project yet, and I strongly feel it is the next step in my artistic career. It is really important to me to go beyond the art world and beyond the gallery to connect with a more public audience. Your help would be invaluable in realizing my goals, both social and artistic.
